We create our own patterns, focusing on subtlety through the use of simple silhouettes, neutral colors, selective materials, and hidden closures. We design from the inside out, as we consider construction techniques as integral to the piece. Most of all, we believe that good design requires restraint. The reason many pieces are complicated is because simple is hard to do; achieving simplicity is often a complex process in and of itself.
We hand-select the materials we work with, searching for the most unfinished leathers available. We treat the leathers with the utmost respect, altering them only in ways that accentuate their natural beauty, such as through laser cutting and hand dying. The alterations serve to highlight the natural markings and symmetry in the grain. We do not use any hardware that distracts from or obscures the character of the materials. We also create our own materials through proprietary processes, including our “luna leather,” which is molded and sculpted into a highly textured leather surface. The process creates organic patterns that have never been seen before, and no two pieces are alike.
Making something great takes time. We believe that by committing ourselves to sourcing the highest-quality materials and hand-sewing our pieces, we are creating superior products. The materials fall smoothly and the stitch is far more durable than products made by machine. Furthermore, we take a holistic approach towards making our pieces. One person works on each individual piece from beginning to end, which results in a more cohesive product. While the process may be longer and more arduous, we believe it is worth it. A hand-stitched piece is a work of art to be marveled at not only for its aesthetic appeal but also the love and effort that was put into making it. While we cherish old world techniques like hand stitching, we also embrace innovation, as seen through our employment of laser cutting to create stunning patterns.
We are building a sustainable business with products that are meant to last. Too many fashion companies create products that are trendy and seasonal, which results in disposable and dated pieces. Each piece of ours is meant to have a timeless quality to it that allows it to be cherished and passed down from generation to generation, and the strength of the stitching and materials allows it to be durable enough to survive.
